Nasarawa State Receives Report From Task Force to Verify Land in Greater Karu Area, Vows to Implement Recommendations.

Image may contain: one or more people and people standingHis Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has pledged to totally implement the report by the Task Force to Verify Land in Greater Karu Area, declaring that the government would not relent in prosecution of all identified speculators and illegal developers.

Governor Almakura made this known as he received the report from the Report from Task Force to Verify Land in Greater Karu Area at the Government House Lafia.

The Governor made it known that the government would soon commence the verification of all land titles in the state, so as to guard against illegal land deals and proliferation of slums around the state.

The Governor promised proper reallocation of documents in specific cases as well as action against those aiding land speculators This is in an effort to develop Nasarawa state into a modern society in line with the Nasarawa Geographic Information Service (NAGIS) rules and regulations.

There has been a worrying trend as a result of the illegal activities of the speculators and illegal occupants of landed properties with fake documents in the state especially in Karu, Keffi, Nasarawa, Akwanga and Lafia LGAs respectively.

Presenting the three (3) volume Report, Chairman of the Taskforce and the Commissioner of Justice , Barr. Yusuf Shehu Usman explained that one hundred and one (101) memorandum and complaints were received by the taskforce.

He made it known that in producing the report the committee was guided by the terms of reference presented to it , he urging government to constitute a standing taskforce to implement the findings of the committee.

Terms of References
i. Verify the authenticity of land Titles within the Greater Karu Urban Area expecially where there is contentious ownership.
ii. Identify all Government lands within the area designated as Greater Karu Urban Area and ascertain status
iii. Reclaim all government lands trespassed or encroached into within the greater Karu Urban Area
iv. Confirm whether developments on lands within Greater Karu Urban Area are in compliance with the approval of the relevant authority.
v. Demolish all illegal structures within the Greater Karu Urban Area.
vi. Make any other recommendation (s) incidental to the Committee’s assignment and
vii. Submit report to Government within three months from the date of inauguration.
