His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has called the attention of the Federal Government on the need for the Federal Government to continue the Awe - Tunga road and the Kwandere – Keffi road embarked upon by the Nasarawa State Government due to their importance to the State and the nation.
Governor Almakura made the call as he received the Senate Committee on Works led by Senator Kabiru Gaya who were in the state for an oversight visit and inspection of Federal Government projects and roads at the Government House Lafia.
The Governor Stated that the two roads would be the watershed for development in Nasarawa State, as well as be an avenue which other states would benefit , stating that other communities around other states ,would utilize the Awe – Tunda Road while the Keffi - Kwandere road would shave over an hour for Lafia to Abuja for those that use the road, as well as serve the Lafia Airport under construction . He requested that they be looked into and gazetted.
Gov. Almakura described the Senate Committee on Works as one of the hardest working committees and a great partner in progress of Nigeria , due to the need for basic inferstructure which starts and ends with availability of roads.
He informed the Committee that before his coming to the helm of affairs in the 2011 there were no asphalt t roads apart from the Federal Roads , informing them that he constructed over 200 kilometer of asphalt, ensuring that each Local Government received 3kilometers of township roads.
He explained some federal roads that were not delivering the right type of dividends due to the failure of the structures like the Toto –Nasarawa Road and Lafia – Shendam road with hope they would add their voice to the calls for the rehabilitation of the roads which were in very bad shape and given hoodlums a field day.
Speaking earlier, The Committee Chairman Sen. Kabiru Gaya commended Gov. Almakura for the for his massive work and beautification of Nasarawa state.
Explaining that they were impressed with his
commitment to inferstructure .
Sen. Gaya explained that one of the major things they do was to carry out assessment and make recommendations on projects .
Lastly, he stated that they would do what they could to ensure that Nasarawa State was reimbursed for the work done on federal roads within the state.
The Committee led by Gov. Almakura and His Deputy then visited the Keffi – Kwandere Road which was 25km completed , as well as the Tudun Kauri massive storm drains constructed by the Nasarawa State Government.
