Gov. Almakura Swears In Interim Management Committee Chairman, Warns that Acceptance is Acceptance to Serve.

His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has warned the Interim Management Committee Chairmen of Nasarawa State that their acceptance of the position is acceptance to serve the people.

Governor Almakura made gave this warning at the swearing in of the 11 IMC Chairmen at the Government House Lafia which followed their conformation by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

Gov. Almakura reminded the new IMC Chairmen that Public Office was a Public Trust which would internalized the guiding principles of accountability , prudence , transparency , hard work , loyalty and commitment to service which were the hallmark of the administration which came with their appointment.

Speaking at the Swearing in Ceremony the Governor explained that the action was based on the principle of pragmatism and to avoid a vacuum in the administration of the Local Government s. The Governor expressed his profound appreciation to the Honorable House of Assembly Members for the prompt response and conformation of the nominees, stating that the synergy was an indication that of the collective desire to better the lives of the people of the state especially those at the grassroots.

He further explained that the decision to appoint a new IMC came out of the fact that the hiccup in economy of the country and the state which would not allow for sufficient funds to conduct election without depriving the state of needed funds which are channeled for immediate socio economic obligations that have direct bearing on the lives of the people , such as to finance workers’ salaries. Stating that any activity that would tamper with the smooth payment of salaries would have to wait till funds are available.

Stating that with the gradual recovery of the Nation’s economy, they were working on how to mobilize funds to conduct the Local Government Elections, by setting up an account where every month after the payment of salaries the remaining funds would be taken to the account with hope that they would be able save enough to conduct LGA election very soon.

He said that their selection came after wide consultations with stakeholders with a view to bringing capable hands that would turnaround the socio economic activities at the grassroots , at the same time the membership of the Interim Management Committees was due to their antecedence as grass root mobilizers who have a close relationship with the people of their constituencies and are therefore positioned to contribute to the socio economic development of the state

He explained that the those reappointed was due to their remarkable performance the first time , urged them to try and go much higher this time .

Reminding them that they must liaise with the Ministry for Local Government to ensure their activities and actions complement that of Government and confirm to the Local Government laws as enacted by the state House of Assembly.

Lastly, he challenged them to collaborate with the Ministry to come up with the 2018 budget proposals that would ensure the completion of all major contracts awarded in line with the administrations fiscal policy framework.
