Gov. Almakura Commissions Male and Female Hostel at the College of Education Akwanga

He Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has reaffirmed his administrationís commitment towards the uplifting of every sector within the state , with a view towards addressing the challenges faced in such areas and ensuring that Nasarawa State and its people are better off.

Gov. Almakura made this known as he commissioned two (2) completed Hostel Blocks at the College of Education Akwanga. Presenting his Speech Gov. Almakura state that when coming on board in 2011 they had seen the challenges in the education sector where inadequacy of hostels was a critical problem that needed to be solved, thereby the Nasarawa State Government collected a bond from the capital market which was partly used to build 10 hostels for the State Higher Institutions. Four for the Nasarawa State University Keffi, two for the College of Education, two for the College of Agriculture and Two for the Nasarawa State Polytechnic.

The Governor made in very clear the project by solely done by the State government and stated that the bond collected had be paid back 97% and all contractors paid.

He tasked the students to make proper use of the hostels so that they would be able to appreciate the efforts of the government. He said each of the hostels would be given a motorized borehole and a overhead tanks to ensure availability of water at the hostels.

Speaking earlier the College Provost Dr. Mrs. Rebecca Umaru thanked the Governor for the construction and furnishing of the 336 capacity Hostels ( 672 Total) expressing thanks that their hostels were among the first to be completed and commissioned.
The Provost appreciated the vision in initiating and executing the construction and furnishing of the hostel block assuring that it would go a long way in providing accommodation for the teaming number of students and would help in checking the excesses of landlord that charge students exorbitantly off campus.

The 3 story hostel has 336 bed spaces at 4 persons per room
Mattress and pillow per bed space provided
24 toilets and bathrooms on each floor
Solar lights in the court yard
Well made rain gutters for water
And Drying lines in the court yard for safe drying of cloths.
