Democracy Day: Politicians and other stakeholders in Nasarawa State have been tasked to be guided by the collective interest of the state.

His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura has urged current and past political appointees to be dedicated to the vision of a better Nasarawa State .

Gov. Almakura made this known as part of his submission at a stakeholders holder's forum held in commemoration of this year's democracy day. The May 29th Celebration ( Democracy Day) which was low key due to the mood of the Nation and the health of the President.

As part of the solemn events in celebrating Democracy Day a Stakeholders Consultative meeting in Government House .The Stakeholders included Speaker and Members of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, All SSGs ,Commissioners, Special Advisers, SSAs, SAs, PAs, Chief of Staff, TMC/IMC chairmen, Taal campaign organization led by Ambassador Musa Illu, CPC and APC state and LGA officials, Taal Gida Gida, VITAL and many others.

Also in attendance were the executives of the APC in Nasarawa State led by the state party Chairman and the North Central Vice President Mr. Zakari Idde with a host of Former Commissioners, Former Special Advisers, Former SSAs, Former SAs, Former Past, TMC/IMC chairmen who served the Nasarawa State Government since 2011.

The governor described them as the Pride of Nasarawa State , as those who make Nasarawa tick, those who’s sweat, vision and work has pushed the state to where it is today a gathering of appreciation and remembrance.

The Governor reeled out the development efforts he has achieved so far, highlighted some of the break through recorded by his administration in the last six years in the areas of road construction, health care and education.

Two years into the administration, transparency, accountability, due process and the fear of God were still the guiding principles , he appreciated the distinctive role played by some individuals from 2011- 2017 and their contributions towards state affairs which cannot be quantified.

Gov. Almakura listed out some of his Legacy projects embarked upon by his administration which included the setting up of the Nasarawa Geographic Information Service (NAGIS), the Special Schools (one in each senatorial zone ) , Lafia Cargo Airport, the e-libraries ,the new Lafia- Keffi road .

The interactive session had the Speaker Nasarawa State House Of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi who acknowledged the high level of development achieved and gave the full support of the legislature towards ensuring the governor succeeds

The chairman of the APC Mr. Philp Tatari Shekwo also spoke about the developmental strides undertake by the Governor toward taking the state forward and meeting the developmental needs of the state.


To mark the 2017 Democracy Day there was a presentation by the IMC Chairmen who came dressed in a white uniform as they presented the Governor , Deputy Governor and the SSG with gifts for their outstanding performance in running the state .

The other activities include the pardon of some inmates by His Excellency Umaru Tanko Almakura, following the recommendations of the state committee on Prerogative of Mercy he was set to release 49 Prison inmates spread across the state.
